Steeped in history, the park was once the site of Theobalds Palace, a favoured residence of James I. Queen Elizabeth I also visited Theobalds many times during her reign. The park was given to the Borough in 1919 and today has a scheduled ancient monument, woodland walks, formal gardens, play maze, ponds, pets’ corner, play trail, an arboretum and a conservation area. The park covers over 7.5 hectares and has held Green Flag status for a number of years.
In 2014, Broxbourne Council received a £1.89 million grant from the Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery Parks for People programme, to protect, conserve and improve Cedars Park for the Borough’s residents.
The Park has an active group of local park users known as the Friends of Cedars Park, who act as the eyes and ears of the park manager as well as providing support for Community events.
The Cedars Park café offers delicious all day breakfasts, ice creams and smoothies, home-made cakes and scones, baguettes and paninis, prepared with locally sourced produce and fairly traded coffees and teas.
