Woodland
Eco friendly and biodegradable coffins such as cardboard, willow or bamboo are used in this green burial area. Green burials provide many benefits for wildlife and this previously unused area for about 80 new graves has been set aside and laid out for those who wish to have a grave in a quiet secluded place with wildflowers and trees.
Site of historical interest
A number of war graves, including military personnel from New Zealand, Australia and Canada
Hatfield Road Cemetery was opened in 1884, and over 30,000 people have been buried there since that date.
The cemetery includes a number of war graves, including military personnel from New Zealand, Australia and Canada, and the Council is proud to host an annual Anzac Day service at the war memorial in the centre of the cemetery.
The cemetery is laid out in a formal design, but its impact is softened by major tree planting, large shrubs and hedges.
