A former chalk pit in St Paul's Walden, North Hertfordshire
Hill End Chalk Pit is a 0.7 hectare nature reserve on the site of a former chalk pit in St Paul’s Walden, North Hertfordshire.
It has the largest colony of Azeca Goodalli snails in Hertfordshire. The site is a regionally important geological site (RIGS), dating to the Turonian age around 90 million years ago and was formerly a site of special scientific interest.
The pit still contains many fossils, avaliable for the public to discover.
Small car park on site (About 3 cars).
