Park Information

Pishiobury Park is a registered historic parkland (Grade 2 star) with a history that spans from the Neolithic period, with evidence of Roman occupation, links to Henry VIII and evidence of ‘Capability’ Brown style landscape features.

The park is located off the A1184 and nestles between the towns of Sawbridgeworth and Harlow on the Hertfordshire and Essex border. It is bounded to the North West by the A1184. The north east and south west boundaries are backed onto by residential properties. The south east boundary consists of wet woodland (The Osier Bed), grazed fields, flood meadows and the River Stort navigation.

The original park covered a much larger area, some retained as open land but privately owned and some developed for housing. The remaining 30 ha of parkland has been designated a County Wildlife Site and is laid largely to grazed pasture with scattered mature trees, roundels, hedgerows and woodland belts lining the perimeter.

The largest woodland area, Nursery Wood, lines the north east boundary.  The site is dominated by a central raised spine running north to south, Oak Walk, which contributes to the treescape and is lined with a range of tree species. The east facing slope leading down from Oak Walk to the fence line of the Osier bed has a diverse grassland sward. To the south west boundary of the park is a planted double avenue of limes.

A series of drainage ditches run through the park and there is a pond and a natural spring.
