Park Information

This open space is filled with insects and birds. The young woodland area was planted by the community in the 1980’s and the community orchard was planted by the Welwyn Hatfield Tree Wardens in the 2010’s.

The open space is left slightly wild for nature. Mown paths allow access through the meadow and areas of spring bulbs. Small bridges cris-cross the ditch which runs through the site and is home to abundant dragon and damsel flies.

The open space is situated next to the train line and 20th Mile Bridge (20 miles to London!). Before Welwyn Garden City was built, the open space was a Victorian dump. Waste from London was brought by trains and tipped into this area. Once full, the site was capped and left for the benefit of wildlife and the enjoyment of local residents.
